A free CPD event focused on the role of psychology in schools, final applications for a mentoring scheme and a new language resource are among the SecEd At a glance headlines for January 16, 2013.

A free day of CPD focusing on the practical application of psychological support in both primary and secondary schools is being held for teachers and school staff. Taking place on March 5 in south Birmingham, the event is entitled “Attachment, Social Development and the Links to Learning” and will feature school-based case studies, theory-to-practice presentations from clinical and educational psychologists, and examples of Pupil Premium deployment. The deadline to nominate students for the Unlocking Potential mentoring programme is tomorrow (Friday, January 17). The scheme is run by awarding body AQA and focuses on helping to improve students’ self-confidence and build their strengths. It is open to young people aged 14 to 19 and the programme will see them planning and delivering a project that benefits their local community.
