You can download the first Best Practice Focus: Strategies for effective differentiation in your classroom (SecEd, April 2019) by clicking here.

In part two, Matt continues these discussions with a look at the strategies of “exit tickets” and “hinge questions” in order to set the right level of challenge and locate pupils’ “struggle zones” – the point just beyond their current capability but within their reach, something they cannot yet do but will be able to with time, effort and support.

He also comes back to the importance of high expectations and what these look like, before considering eight of the most common forms of differentiation in use today and their advantages and disadvantages. He finishes this Best Practice Focus with a look at the role that teaching assistants can play.
