Three common challenges faced by new teachers

Our profession is a demanding one and as an induction tutor, I hear regularly about the things that ECTs find the most difficult as they get to grips with life at the chalkface.

In this article I explore three common challenges I have encountered and discuss some of the solutions I have come up with in collaboration with our ECTs.

 

1, Increased workload

During teacher training, the workload gradually increases until, finally, you are qualified and find your first employment. Once an ECT, the workload increases again with added responsibilities to boot – many ECTs take on a tutor group for example.
