A group of year 7 Sunderland pupils enjoyed a design and technology lesson with a difference recently.

The pupils were invited to visit Nissan UK’s Sunderland factory to learn more about the car production process.

It is the fourth year running that Nissan UK has hosted such a visit for nearby students.

Nissan UK, just 15 miles from Excelsior Academy, produces the Qashqai, Juke and Infiniti models. The company was in the news recently when it confirmed that it would build both the new Qashqai and the X-Train SUV at its Sunderland plant.

The students, from Excelsior Academy’s three secondary schools, donned health and safety gear to tour the factory, which is one of the world’s most efficient vehicle manufacturing plants.
