A survey of 1,519 children and young people aged 7 to 17 has revealed a strong desire to understand environmental issues and to be equipped with skills that will help them to make a difference.
Commissioned by the Leadership Skills Foundation, the research finds that 62% of young people say lessons about nature, climate change and the environment are as important as subjects such as maths, history and English.
And 59% say they want to learn more about climate change at school than they currently do.
The results show a belief among the young people that climate
literacy is essential to their personal and professional lives. However, 46% of the respondents said they already know more about climate change than their teachers.
