Diary of an NQT: Preparing for the off

IT failures, meetings galore and a jungle of data and reporting – and that’s after just two days. Our NQT diarist is getting to grips with school life and awaiting her first lesson…

Luckily, I managed not to embarrass myself on my first day. With the students not arriving until the Wednesday, the first two days consisted mostly of attending meetings and continually moving the tables in my classroom to try and get it just right.

My first day started with me trudging through the rain with my wheelie suitcase full of resources, but things did improve when I got to school.

I was introduced to the faculty first, who all smiled enthusiastically with a hint of “welcome to hell” glistening in their eyes! It was great to have a chance to meet everyone before the whole-school meeting – I felt as if I had a team and that I belonged there.
