Diary of an NQT: Embracing mindfulness

A wonderful form group and 10 minutes a day of mindfulness techniques is helping our NQT diarist through the cold winter months

Brexit is “old news” now, my year 7 form were telling me today. Apparently, it’s all about Trump.

These tiny year 7 students with huge voices and strong opinions have amazed me over the past few weeks.

They started in September as little mice, timid and scared. I remember trying to coax out a “Here, Miss” that was actually audible. Now I’m having to keep the peace during lengthy (and surprisingly well researched) debates every form time.

First they debated Brexit, then Syria and now, of course, it’s the “Trump Monster”, as they have (not so) affectionately named him.

Each time a new topic comes up in the news they practically beg me to teach them about it so they can argue at length over its ins and outs.
