Diary of a headteacher: Distributed leadership

Autonomy, authority and accountability are key to successful distributed leadership. Our headteacher diarist explains how he is embracing this approach in his school

Someone once said to me that one of the truest tests of your impact as a leader is demonstrated when you are not in school and everything runs smoothly.

It took me a while to appreciate these words and my initial reaction was to think that if this is true then surely that demonstrates that my role has become redundant.
