Taking place in London on January 22, the event will bring together a range of schools and other experts to offer final preparation advice ahead of implementation.
In September 2020, secondary schools are required to offer relationships and sex education (RSE) and health education to all pupils and in June the Department for Education (DfE, 2019) published its statutory guidance on the content of both subjects.
The event will see two keynote speakers. The first, Lucy Emmerson from the Sex Education Forum (SEF), will focus on practical steps that should be taken in the run up to September 2020 to ensure that your RSE meets statutory requirements. She will also signpost useful resources and support.
The second, mental health expert Dr Pooky Knightsmith, will consider the statutory requirements of the Health Education elements, offering schools a “how-to” approach to ensure they are ready.
The event will also feature a range of workshops led by schools and other experts and focused on issues including:
- Redesigning PSHE and RSE.
- Promoting student wellbeing.
- Supporting good mental health.
- Access to RSE for SEN students.
- Parental engagement and RSE.
- LGBT+ within RSE and PSHE.
