SecEd's latest Guide To has been produced in conjunction with the Association of School and College Leaders and offers practical advice on developing the range of key skills that combine to make an effective middle leader.

These skills include leading by example, thinking beyond the classroom, negotiating skills, having difficult conversations, team-working, understanding your own leadership style, and more.

It includes an overview of these key skills, practical advice on how to nurture and develop them, and details of the new Ahead Network, which is supporting middle leaders with their CPD and career development.

The Guide also includes a case study of one school's CPD programme for developing its middle leadership talent. Published: October 2014.
