The young people will be given access to a new “Education Record” app which will store their full educational records. It is aimed at cutting the need for paper files and things like hard copy examination certificates when students leave school or college.
The scheme will be trialled with more than 95,000 young people in Greater Manchester and the West Midlands, who will receive their GCSE results via the app this summer.
The Department for Education says national roll-out of the app could save schools and colleges as much as £30m a year.
The idea is that young people can also use the app to access their records as required when applying for further education, apprenticeships or employment.
