School building £10m boost in Northern Ireland

Much-needed building work valued at more than £10 million is to begin at Northern Ireland secondary schools.

The money is being made available under the School Enhancement Programme (SEP).

SEP was introduced in 2013 for projects costing between £500,000 and £4 million. Money for complete new builds in the North has been scare in recent years. Many schools have been waiting for years.

Just one of the 16 high priority building projects targeted at schools in “dire need of investment” has broken ground in the last two years. Four of those 16 have not even made it to the design stage.

SEP is designed to help meet the immediate and pressing needs in schools where major capital works are not deemed affordable or deliverable.
