Keeping Children Safe in Education 2025: What do we need to do now to be ready?

As yet, there has been no annual update published for the Keeping Children Safe in Education statutory safeguarding guidance. However, designated safeguarding leads don't need to wait to take meaningful action ahead of September. Elizabeth Rose advises

At the time of writing, no draft update to Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) has been published and it is not clear when (or if) the current version will be updated for September 2025.

This has left some schools feeling in limbo – do you refresh and update your policies and training now and re-do it later or wait and have to update them quickly at the end of the holidays?

For several years now, we have seen provisional updates published in a timely manner in order to help schools prepare. For example, the updates to the current September 2024 version of KCSIE were first made available on May 24, 2024.
