Between lesson planning, marking, and handling the daily logistics of classroom life, it is easy to become consumed by the job – especially when you are new to the chalkface and keen to make your mark.

Maintaining a healthy work/life balance is a challenge, especially for those new to the profession. Even experienced educators find themselves teetering between their responsibilities and their wellbeing.

Over the last five years of my teaching journey, I too have faced this struggle. I found myself constantly scrambling, trying to develop habits that would support a healthier balance between my personal life and professional responsibilities.

Through trial and error, I think I have discovered what works for me –and, just as importantly, what doesn’t.
