It has been 10 years since MP John Bercow carried out his independent review of provision for children and young people with speech, language and communication needs (SLCN) and this crucial area of SEN is to provide the theme for the 2019 Tes SEN Show.
The event takes place in London on October 4 and 5 and the keynote speech and panel debate will focus on the follow up report, Bercow: Ten years on, which looks at what has been achieved and what is still to be done since the original review.
The report has been published by I CAN, the children’s communication charity, and the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists and the keynote will be delivered by I CAN chief Bob Reitemeier.
The panel debate will provide an update on where we are in achieving the Bercow review recommendations. Panel members will include André Imich, SEND professional advisor at the Department for Education, and Nick Whittaker HMI, Ofsted’s national lead for SEND.
As part of the overarching theme of SLCN, the event’s seminar programme highlights the importance and impact that SLCN has on access to the curriculum and the emotional wellbeing of young people. It also looks issues such as emotional regulation for young people with autism, school transition, communication and mental health and school improvement.
There are 42 CPD-certified seminars at the event this year alongside specialist SEN exhibitors, workshops and other attractions. The event takes place at the Business Design Centre in London. Registration is free.
