The initiative offers pupils in years 7 and 8 the opportunity to choose their own book to take home and keep from a list of 17 titles. The subsidised programme costs schools £3 per student.
The programme is suitable for all pupils regardless of their reading ability or learning needs and the 17 books have been selected by a panel of experts. The programme is designed to work alongside an English Department’s existing reading strategy.
Titles this year include Shadowsmith by Ross MacKenzie, Accidental Superstar by Marianne Levy, Boris Babysits by Sam Lloyd, Sky Dancer by Gill Lewis, Chasing Danger by Sara Grant, and The Guggenheim Mystery by Robin Stevens.
BookTrust is the UK’s largest children’s reading charity, reaching 3.4 million children a year with books, resources and support.
