Last year’s event saw more than 420,000 children and young people collectively read for a total of 100,019,560 minutes.
Organised by charity Achievement for All, the challenge is open to schools, families, libraries, community groups, businesses and others.
The challenge will end on Children’s Book Day on April 2 giving participants 26 days to collectively reach the goal.
During the challenge, there is a live leaderboard showing the schools with the highest average number of reading minutes per child.
The winners of the competition will be the schools or other groups with the highest average number of reading minutes per child.
Prizes will be awarded to those who achieve the highest average and certificates will be available to the individuals who reach key reading targets throughout the reading challenge.
