Outdoor Classroom Day on May 18

As many as half a million children across the world are expected to take their learning out of the classroom when they take part in Outdoor Classroom Day next month.

Taking place on May 18, the initiative is organised in as many as 52 countries by the Project Dirt social enterprise and is being led in the UK by charity Learning Through Landscapes.

The main thrust behind the now annual campaign is to encourage and support teachers to take their lessons outside. Last year, almost 500,000 children globally took part in Empty Classroom Day in June and Outdoor Classroom Day in October – the initiatives have now combined under the Outdoor Classroom Day banner.

Teachers and schools are being invited to sign up to the project online, where a range of resources and support is offered. So far, schools catering for around 150,000 students have signed up to take part in 2017.
