Luke Bibby, a third-year medical student at Gonville and Caius College and former president of the Caius Medical Society, and fellow medical student Ellie Walder were keen to give high-achieving state school pupils an idea of what studying medicine at Cambridge is like.
With that in mind, they came up with the idea of a two-day residential course for sixth-formers interested in studying medicine.
Last month, a group of 20 students aged 17 and 18 from state schools in Norfolk, North Yorkshire, Hertfordshire and London got the chance to stay at Gonville and Caius, one of Cambridge’s oldest colleges.
Undergraduates gave up their rooms so the sixth-formers could get a taste of life at the college. As well as meeting current medical students and academics, they went to lectures on subjects like applied anatomy and ethical dilemmas, attended mock interview workshops and had a tour of the university.
