Guide advises schools on administration costs

Schools could save up to 20 per cent on their administration costs through simple changes in practice, according to a new guidance report.

The National Association of School Business Management (NASBM) says that even schools considered to be efficient have the ability to make further savings.

Guidance for Improving School Financial Outcomes analyses areas of school life including leadership time, business management, operations management and planning.

The NASBM says that the vast majority of the proposed “best practice opportunities” can be implemented at minimal or no cost, without specialist skills, and are applicable to schools of any size. It claims that savings of 10 to 20 per cent in administration costs “is a realistic expectation from implementing these recommendations effectively”.
