Our guests offer ideas, tips and pedagogy to help you ensure your marking and feedback is effective.
Themes include the purposes of classroom/teacher assessment, what should be in a school’s assessment policy, consistency across the school, using assessment to inform/improve our curriculum planning, target-setting, tracking progress, using assessment data well, assessment points and spotting and addressing misconceptions.
We offer marking tips to reduce workload, including how to “live mark” during lessons, verbal mark schemes, self and peer-assessment, code-marking, other forms of in-class assessment (hinge questions, exit tickets etc).
And there are tips for effective feedback, including whole-class feedback, feedback sheets, and other approaches.
The podcast is hosted by Matt Bromley and our guests are:
- Chloe Testa, head of English at The Hollyfield School in Surbiton.
- Adam Riches, assistant principal (with responsibility for teaching and learning and quality of teaching) at Ipswich Academy. He is also a Specialist Leader of Education and the author of Teach Smarter.
