Oxford honours inspirational teachers

Ten inspirational teachers have been honoured for their work in going “the extra mile” for their students.

The teachers, from state schools and colleges across the UK, were recognised for their efforts in encouraging and supporting their pupils to win places at Oxford University.

They were nominated for Oxford’s annual Inspirational Teacher Awards by the students they inspired, all of whom are now first year undergraduates at the university. Some were the first in their school’s history to apply to Oxford.

Adib Tarafdar, who is studying medicine at Keble College, nominated Jamie Beard, assistant headteacher at Bryntirion Comprehensive School in Bridgend.

“At my school I was the first ever student to apply to study medicine at Oxford University,” said Adib.
