Government unveils £5m fund for ‘inspiring’ school improvements

Facilities
Support worth £5 million will go towards creating innovative learning environments that enable closer links between schools and further education, the Scottish government has announced.

The scheme, Inspiring Learning Places, will complement the £1.25 billion Schools for the Future rebuilding programme with a number of “low-cost but high-impact projects”, Michael Russell, the education secretary, said.

“This funding will support the redesign of internal learning environments and could contribute to the recommendations made by the Commission for Developing Scotland’s Young Workforce by encouraging integrated learning spaces between schools and further education,” Mr Russell said.

This would enable senior pupils to have early access to vocational qualifications.

“There are no constraints on the types of projects that could benefit from the funding as we want our learning providers to be ambitious in their ideas,” he added.
