Lord Baker’s recent call to change the ‘regressive’ EBacc approach is one supported by Dr Mary Bousted

The current EBacc is a profoundly narrow, backward looking model of learning.

The scale and extent of dismay and unease caused by the EBacc should give Justine Greening grave worries. It is not just the usual suspects who are against the imposition of this narrow secondary curriculum, although there are enough of those, but the alarm has now been sounded by that great education grandee, Lord Kenneth Baker, secretary of state for education from 1986 to 1989.

I remember Kenneth Baker well. He presided over the first incarnation of the national curriculum and provided good copy for that great education commentator and satirist, Ted Wragg, who used Kenneth Baker as a punch bag in many of his articles.
