Life as a headteacher can be an emotional rollercoaster. You experience a huge range of emotions – from joy, to sorrow, sometimes anger and often confusion and all within the space of a day.

Broadly speaking, for anyone working with young people, this isn’t unusual and it is probably why we do it.

No one school day is ever the same, you never look at your watch and think that the day is dragging, and the variety and challenges that come hand-in-hand with our profession keep life interesting for us.

I think I have always understood this, even as an NQT I can recall telling friends and family about teaching never feeling like it is a “job”.
