The winners of last year’s STEM Inspiration Awards have recently enjoyed a visit to the Large Hadron Collider at CERN in Switzerland as part of their prize.

The deadline for entries to the 2020 awards is April 6 and the hunt is on once again for those professionals making a special contribution to STEM education.

Awarded by STEM Learning and sponsored by UK Research and Innovation (UKRI), the awards celebrate outstanding individuals and organisations who inspire young people to pursue STEM subjects and careers.

Education categories include Outstanding STEM Club, Inspiring Technician (including school and college technicians), and Outstanding Contribution to Widening Participation, Diversity and Inclusion in STEM.

The 2019 winners included Downlands Community School, where Helen Colvert runs three STEM Clubs. The citation said: “The Downlands STEM Clubs have encouraged a highly practical approach, with students developing business plans and working through real-life design/build processes. It’s unsurprising that the clubs have grown in popularity and in number.”
