Mental health award

Mental health
Aureus School in Oxfordshire has become one of the first to receive a gold award for dealing with the mental health of both pupils and staff.

Aureus is among only six secondary schools to be awarded the Carnegie Centre of Excellence Mental Health Gold Award for Schools.

The school recently opened a dedicated area for students to use as a safe space to explore their feelings. The Nurture Room allows them to take time out and, if necessary, they can use the school’s sensory room to watch an aquarium or sit under a weighted blanket.

Every pupil has half-an-hour of mindful art, reading, science or movement each morning, ahead of lessons. Aureus School also hosts the Didcot Art Room, which is run by a national charity to bring art therapy into schools.
