The UK’s largest relationships and sex education (RSE) lesson is being delivered on Wednesday, September 16, as part of Sexual Health Week.

It is being staged by sexual health and wellbeing charity Brook and is aimed at students in year 9 and above.

The one-hour lesson will be interactive and aims to spark conversations around healthy relationships, including what these look like, relationship behaviours, online relationships, and where and how to seek advice and support. It will also touch on the effects that lockdown has had on young people.

This month sees the long-awaited introduction of mandatory RSE in secondary schools (relationships education is also now mandatory in primary schools).

The lesson is part of a range of activities Brook is laying on during Sexual Health Week, the theme of which this year is Get Your RSE in Gear.

Dougie Boyd, head of education at Brook, said: “As RSE becomes compulsory in schools in England, we wanted to kick-start the academic year with an engaging and informative lesson that will set the tone for the year ahead.

“We believe all young people have the right to high-quality, inclusive RSE, and we are proud to provide teachers with the skills and confidence they need to deliver just that.”

Brook’s Big RSE Lesson will take place on September 16 from 10am to 11am. The lesson can be live streamed via the Learn Live platform and will be available to view for 12 months following the broadcast day.
