Survey findings from the National Literacy Trust (Picton & Clark, 2024) involving more than 15,000 students aged 13 to 18 reveal that 77% have used generative AI to support learning and literacy this year.
This is more than double the 37% who said they had similarly used AI in 2023.
Popular AI generative tools include ChatGPT, Gemini and Claude, which can write and read texts in a human-like manner.
The main reasons the young people in the survey said they use AI included for homework (59%), to help create ideas (50%), as well as to help them understand (52%) and learn new things (51%).
