Maeve Stillman, from St Mary’s College in Derry, is 2019’s Young Scientist of the Year

Maeve Stillman from St Mary’s College in Derry, and Grace Lord, Brendan Miralles and Aalia Sellar from the Loughborough Schools Foundation have been named as 2019’s Young Scientist and Young Engineers of the Year respectively.

The awards were revealed at last month’s Big Bang Fair and are the top honours in the Big Bang Competition – an annual challenge promoting STEM skills and project work for students aged 11 to 18.

Maeve, 15, aimed to improve our understanding of how activated charcoal effects the absorption of everyday medicines.

The team from Loughborough created Music Splash, an app that analyses music performances.
