My Twist on a Tale

A new national writing competition – My Twist on a Tale – has been launched to celebrate a diverse and modern-day Britain.

The initiative from education company Pearson will challenge students aged four to 16 to “reimagine” traditional stories, giving their 21st century take on fairy tales, fables and regional folk stories of old.

Children are being asked to draw on their personal interests, background and experiences as part of the competition and winners from regions across the UK and across key stages will see their works published as a collection of short stories to celebrate a diverse and modern-day Britain.

To help inspire young writers, Pearson is providing a free selection of fables, fairy tales and folk stories, as well as resources to support schools and parents. Entries need to be submitted by November 29 and an expert judging panel will decide on the winning stories.
