Workload campaign in Wales publishes dos and don’ts pocket guide

Teaching staff Workload
Teaching unions have welcomed a new campaign to advise teachers in Wales how to manage their workload.

Staffrooms are being issued with “do” and “don’t” guidance to help teachers when they are planning lessons, marking and assessing, and collecting data. The pocket guides and posters also clarify the school inspectorate Estyn’s expectations.

The campaign was launched jointly by the Welsh government’s cabinet secretary for education, Kirsty Williams, and the chief inspector, Meilyr Rowlands, with the support of teaching unions.

“Too often I hear how teachers feel hampered by box-ticking exercises which aren’t focused on raising standards in our classroom,” Ms Williams said.

“We need to bust some myths on what is required of teachers and be absolutely clear in our guidance.
