The Festival of Engineering 2019

The third annual Festival of Engineering is to take place on April 2 in London and is aimed at secondary school students.

Organised by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) the festival gives secondary school students a taste of being an engineer for a day, and will include inspiring talks, exhibits and hands-on workshops.

There are two streams: EngVentures is for key stages 3 and 4 and will offer a range of tasters. Themes confirmed include the science behind gaming, how engineers are essential to designing toys, and becoming an entrepreneur.

Fast Forward is for those aged 16 to 18 and will showcase some of the technologies the next generation of engineers might be working on. This includes how magnetically levitating pods could be the ultimate 21st century transport, how swarm robotics are revolutionising medicine, and the next steps for exploring Mars.

Tickets to EngFest are free and will be allocated by a random ballot, which is open until December 21. You can apply for up to 15 tickets per event.
