Research reveals the secrets to successful teacher retention

The secrets to successful teacher retention have been revealed as – job satisfaction, having adequate resources, reward and recognition, and being well supported by management.

Research published this week by the National Foundation for Educational Research (NFER) reveals that 23 per cent of teachers are considering quitting – a figure that has increased in the last year by six percentage points.

The number of non-retiring teachers actually quitting is also up from six per cent in 2011 to eight per cent in 2015.
The report – entitled Engaging Teachers: NFER analysis of teacher retention – draws on the views of NFER’s Teacher Voice, a representative panel of state school teachers.

The findings, which are based on four Teacher Voice surveys between June 2015 and May 2016, comprising more than 2,300 teachers, show that 60 per cent are not considering leaving their roles.
