MPs targeted as unions step-up school funding campaign

The union-led campaign over school funding stepped up its lobbying of Parliament this week with the publication of funding forecasts for all 533 of England’s Parliamentary constituencies.

The figures show, for example, that schools in prime minister Theresa May’s constituency face losing an average of £377 per-pupil by 2020, while education secretary Justine Greening’s constituency faces an average loss of £655.

The move means that for the first time MPs who will ultimately decide on the government’s fairer funding proposals can see just how the schools they represent will be affected – and the figures make for sobering reading.

According to the figures, every Parliamentary constituency stands to lose out under the Department for Education’s (DfE) proposals for a new National Funding Formula. Some face losses of more than £1,000 per-pupil on average.
