Jisc changes to hit FE sector

The Department for Education (DfE) is to cut funding to JISC’s services to the further education college sector in England from August 2019.

The not-for-profit Jisc provides technology, e-book, cyber-security and other services to further and higher education sectors and the cuts will mean that a subscription fee is to be introduced for FE members in England.

The move, confirmed earlier this month, could end up costing FE colleges between £15,000 and £50,000 a year. Higher education members have been paying a subscription since 2012.

The Association of Colleges said: “College budgets have been hit harder than any other part of the education system over the last eight years and we continue to fight for fair funding for colleges and for college students. This new cost for an essential service will be a real struggle for many colleges on top of other rising costs over recent years.”
