The sixth annual PA Raspberry Pi competition is open with three £1,000 prizes up for grabs by teams from primary and secondary schools, sixth-forms and further education colleges. This year’s theme is sustainability and the challenge is to use the Raspberry Pi to invent something that will help to “save the planet” – especially ideas that focus on the challenges of energy use, food production and scarcer resources. The closing date is March 5.

The Biology Challenge is open to students aged 12 to 15-years-old. The competition consists of two, 30-minute multiple-choice papers to be taken online under exam conditions. Questions will be set on the school curriculum, but the competition will also reward students whose knowledge of the subject has been increased by reading widely, watching natural history programmes, taking notice of the news media for items of biological interest, and are generally aware of our natural flora and fauna. The competition is run by the Royal Society of Biology.
