CERN offer for science teachers

CPD Computing and STEM
Wales’ education secretary has urged teachers to grasp a “once-in-a-lifetime” opportunity for career development.

The Welsh government has teamed up with the European Centre for Nuclear Research (CERN), in Switzerland, to offer teachers a placement with some of the world’s top scientists.

Earlier this year, 24 physics teachers from Wales visited the site of the large hadron collider in Geneva to witness up close some of the latest discoveries in particle physics, as part of their CPD.

This trip is now being offered again to physics teachers while teachers of any science subject can apply for a separate two-week summer residential placement.

Education secretary Kirsty Williams has called for teachers to apply urgently to ensure they can learn how this pioneering work can inform their lessons and hopefully lead to a greater interest in STEM subjects.
