Are you #NotQuittingTeaching?

The retention of our NQTs is a key challenge facing today’s education system. Julian Stanley looks at some of the problems and introduces the #NotQuittingTeaching campaign

The clocks have gone back and the nights are beginning to draw in. It is a time that can really drag, with Christmas seeming a long way off and the demands of the working year starting to take their toll, particularly for those in their first daunting year of teaching.

Currently, according to data from the National College for Teaching and Leadership (NCTL), one in six (15 per cent) NQTs are leaving teaching within six months of commencing their first teaching post.

New teachers like Emma, a gifted NQT, who after a traumatic first year in a London school, moved to Leeds to an even more challenging school.
